Ultrasonic Wire Splicing is a Technology Pioneered by STAPLA for High Standards
Ultrasonic Metal Welding Technology

Ultrasonic metal welding technology is utilized to provide the best method of choice in wire splicing.
As a cold friction welding, the vibrating energy produces a scrubbing action of wires against one another under a static clamping force. The scrubbing action disperses the surface oxides at the interfaces initially and by the friction produced, the molecules intermingle and diffuse across the surface boundaries, thereby creating a strong metallurgical bond.

Advantages

The advantages of ultrasonic metal welding are most utilized in splicing of stranded or solid wires.

  • Fast cycle time (typically less than one second).
  • Automatic setup and welding parameters.
  • Highly consistent weld dimensions increase the reliability significantly.
  • Low material embrittlement due to low localized heat.
  • High electrical integrity with strong mechanical bond.
  • No cost for consumables such as clip or solder.
  • Environmentally safe (no fumes or odors).
  • Very low energy consumption.
  • Small floor space required.
  • No operator skilled required.
  • 100% quality monitoring prevents wrong wire size, combination or displacements.
Stapla Controller

A complete process/quality controller to meet high standard requirements.

All STAPLA wire splicers are equipped with a digital controller that includes STAPLA’s high-power generator (3kW-power output at 2OkKHz frequency). This user-friendly control unit has full quality and process control capability with simple operation and setup procedures through eight multi-function buttons. The state-of-the-art in electronics is utilized to produce this compact controller with a full range of capabilities.

The key-lock switch will allow the following access to the controller:

  • setup installation: calibration, method of welding, language, full range of capabilities.
  • reference data.
  • welding/quality parameters: manual setup and adjustments of parameter and QC variables.
  • operation: full monitoring and display of variables.
  • operation in automatic (Ml) mode.

The Controller uses advanced electronic components to measure quality control variables.

  • weld time
  • energy
  • compression of wires before welding
  • final weld height

These variables are chosen with specific welding modes available as options (i.e. time, energy, specific weld height, and welding to compression). The quality control limits are set up automatically but can be adjusted manually. When variables exceed the limits, the alarm will sound and can be reset by authorized personnel through the key lock. The special “offset” feature will allow adjustment of nominal variables to prevent a false alarm.
The welding parameters and quality control limits can be saved for up to 1000 splices. A reference list of splices is stored in the memory for automatic setup for each new splice. A simple procedure to recall the splice data will allow setup of the machine within seconds.
All welding parameters and quality control variables are displayed on the large screen. However, the data can be analyzed and displayed in graphical format when connected to a PC. STAPLA provides the required software, specifically designed for your needs. All controllers can be networked together to your specific server, which controls all quality issues as well as production orders for specific assemblies.
